Hi there! Since you’re here, you probably already know who I am: a keeper of cats, a bastion of useless knowledge, and a New York Times bestselling author. For the last decade, I’ve written love stories spanning genres and age ranges. My adult romance debut, The Dead Romantics, is a New York Times Book Reviews’ Best Books Since 2000 and named one of People Magazine’s Best Books of the 2020s, though you probably know me as the author of The Seven Year Slip.

A good story always begins with a good meet-cute. Ever since I could remember, I’ve been spinning stories in my spare time. I didn’t always want to be a writer—I wanted to be a mermaid, a marine biologist, and a graphic novelist, too—but I always felt at home in a book. It wasn’t until I stumbled onto a message board when I was twelve that I began to think about stories in a different way. I remember the first fan-fiction I ever read—you never forget your first, I’m told—and that was it. A meet-cute for the ages. I cut my teeth on Mary Sues and bad reviews, and I wrote. And wrote. And wrote some more. I wrote so much that my parents gifted me an old Compaq laptop for Christmas, and on it I wrote some more. (And I still have burn marks on the inside of my thighs where the Compaq got too hot, but I couldn’t tear myself away from the scene.) At school I carried around binders with my stories printed out, editing them while I was supposed to be paying attention to cosigns and tangents.

And I fell in love. Over, and over, and over again.

When I grew up, I worked in New York City as a marketing designer at a book publisher before I decided to try this whole writing thing full-time. A decade later, I’m still somehow writing full-time, and I’m no less in love with words than I was twenty years ago.
